GUESTBOOK

We have done a number of airfield days at Hullavington, organized by Motor Sports Events (MSE) An airfield day differs from a circuit based track day in a number of ways. Obviously there is not a permanently fixed circuit, so a layout is usually marked out with cones. This has the advantage that the layout can be changed to suit. Another advantage is that airfield days are very safe, in that there are no tire walls to hit, gravel traps to enter or armco to dent! the disadvantage is that by the nature of their location - usually a runway and perimeter roads at a little used airfield - they have very little or no variation in altitude!

They are great fun though and a good place to safely explore the limits of your car. I have found the MSE days to be very well run, with a very friendly atmosphere. All the usual safety rules obviously apply, and MSE give a thourough and full briefing before each day starts.

Hullavington is located just off the M4 west of Swindon.

Most of these pics were taken by the 'professional' photographer you often find at these events snapping away all day. You then purchase any pictures of your car that you might want.

At speed!

You can see my bullet cam to the left of my helmet in this shot.

Look at the bow wave in front of that nearside front wheel. I have Yoko A048r's on the car here, and in my opinion they work very well in these conditions.

MSE also run airfield days at a nearby airfield at Keevil, as well as organizing events at other locations around the UK. I can highly recommend their Academy Days that they run at Heyford, Oxfordshire - a day of various driving skills including emergency stops, slalom, drifting and circuit driving. HUGE fun, the best for me was learning about power oversteer and lift-off oversteer in the drifting session. This session proved so popular that MSE will be running a special 'drift' day soon - I shall post pics as soon as we have done it!
